Kaduna provides 77 patrol vehicles , 50motorcycles to Police

Kaduna State Government has procured 77 Hilux vehicles to assist the police in maintaining law and order in the state.

Governor Nasiru El-Rufa’i, who disclosed this during a working visit to the Police Command Head quarters in Kaduna, also pledged to provide 50 motorcycles to the command.

The governor said the gesture was in appreciation of the tremendous work of the police in securing lives and property in the state.

“The police are the first line of defence and I thought it wise to come here first and thank you and to also encourage you.

“Also to know the challenges you are facing so that within the resources of the state government, we can do our best to provide you with the tools and equipment necessary for your job.

“The vehicles are already being procured as we speak and the motorcycles will follow by God’s grace,” he said. El-Rufa’i charged the police to work harder, be honest and maintain good reputation in order to earn the respect of most Nigerians who view them in bad light.

“Our job as government is to see that we provide you with the tools and the environment to work.

“I am very proud with the performance of the Nigeria Police, Kaduna State Command.

My government will support the security agencies very strongly as they are doing great job here in Kaduna.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the governor also visited the police Criminal Investigation Department where he promised to pay fines of those on remand for minor offences.

Responding, the Police Commissioner, Mr. Umar Shehu, appreciated the government’s gesture and assured him that they would continue to do their best in providing adequate security in the state.

Shehu said the visit was historic as it was the first time any serving governor had visited the command to be acquainted with its challenges.
Timaya denies rape, says US-basedaccuser is blackmailing him

Timaya denies rape, says US-basedaccuser is blackmailing him

So I have reached out to Timaya to hear his side of the story and he denies rape.

Speaking exclusively with LIB, Timaya said it was consensual sex and the girl is now black mailing him.

Timaya admitted that he hooked up with the girl (pictured above) in his Atlanta hotel, but says she agreed to the sex.

He said the girl, who he has been talking to for about a year, contacted him when she found out he was in the US for his tour and bugged him to see him.

He told her where he was and she came to see him. He said from the minute she entered the room, she started filming him.

He said after they finished having sex, the girl continued filming him and began asking him questions.

He said she asked him if he enjoyed the sex and he said yes, then she asked him if she could follow him to his show and he said no that he's working...but that she could come later and he would tell his people to let her in.

She then told him that they didn't use a condom, what if she gets pregnant?

Timaya said he told her that he didn't want another baby, that he just got a baby.

Timaya said she continued asking him questions until he became very suspicious and dragged her phone from her.

That was when he realized that the girl had been filming him the whole time.

He said he deleted the photos/video recordings and asked her what her intentions/plans were? He gave her back her phone and then realized that for I phones, you have to delete twice before it will be completely wiped off.

He then asked her for the phone and she refused to give it to him so he called hotel security.

The hotel security came to the room and asked the lady why she was filming Timaya and she said it was nothing serious, just for fun.

Timaya asked the hotel security to remove the girl from his room but only after the lady has deleted the video recordings.

The hotel security advised Timaya to let the girl go, that if she calls the police and tells them he's holding her hostage, it's a crime in the US.

That was how he let her go. Timaya said at no point did she tell security that she had been raped when he called security on her.

And after she left, she began calling to threaten him, saying she would mess him up and ruin his career for taking things far and calling security on her.

He said she called him again demanding for money to take herself to the hospital.

He said he left money by the reception for her and she came to collect it.

Then she called again to harass him. When she continued harassing and threatening him, he began begging her because she'd already called someone in Nigeria that he was close to accusing him of rape.

She told the dude that for her to keep quiet, Timaya has to pay her $50,000 or she will publish their recordings.

He said he was begging her to stop the blackmail and not because of any rape.

He said when the girl refused to stop, he changed his US number, blocked her on Whatsapp, and instagram so she could no longer reach him for bargain and that was when she created the account on instagram to carry out her threat.

Barack Obama in Kenya in1988, 1992, 2006

President Barack Obama has visited his father's homeland a few times in the past; in 1988, 1992, 2006 before his visit yesterday.

His first visit was in 1988.

He was on a journey of self-discovery to know more about his heritage and his father, who split from his mum 2 years after he was born.

On his second trip in 1992, he traveled with Michelle, who was his fiancee at the time.

They married a few months after that visit. He wanted Michelle to meet his paternal grandmother & other extended family members.

He then visited in 2006 as a US senator. He moved around relatively freely and visited his father’s grave and his grandmother’s tin-roof house.

Two years later, he became the president of the United States of America. (he's pictured with his grandmother above).

I thank you very much for your loyalty to the country, as represented by our institutions and to the system.”

He also stated that total responsibility for their ordeal is in the hands of the law.

Former Jigawa state governor, Sule Lamido, being led to prison.

Vanguard reports that shortly after his return from Abuja, Lamido gave an interview to the international radio station, VOA Hausa service.

The 69-year-old ex-governor described his arrest as the beginning of restoration of confidence in political leadership in Nigeria.

He re called that he had been arrested in the past for holding opposing political views, but stressed that he would never be discouraged in politics.

Lamido noted that if the purpose of his recent arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was to humiliate or destroy him and his family, he would not be discouraged.

READ ALSO: Photos: Lamido And Sons Rejoice After Getting Bail According to the former governor, his arrest was a political hazard that a serious politician must go through.

“In the process to improve democracy, there would be some mistakes.

I am not a perfect human being; I have my own short comings. And in my own case, I’m out spoken, which perhaps explained why people found me too offensive and irritating,” he said.

Lamido confessed that he was worried about his sons who were innocent but had to suffer simply because their father served as a governor.

There fore, he called on Aminu and Mustapha to forgive him and be patient with the situation they found them selves in.

The ex-governor stressed that he was determined to serve his people, adding that he held no grudges against anybody over his arrest.

On July 14, Lamido and his two sons were granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Judge Gabriel Kolawole granted the accused and his sons bail in the sum of N25 million bail bond each, in addition to a requirement that they submit their travel passports to the court.
US, Cuba renew ties, open embassies

US, Cuba renew ties, open embassies

Cuba and the United States formally renewed diplomatic ties Monday, as embassies reopened in their respective capitals, a powerful move to ward burying decades of enmity between the Cold War foes.

A foreign policy legacy for President Barack Obama, the historic turnaround between two bitter foes has come about at breakneck pace, in just a matter of months since the two sides agreed to bury the hatchet and work together as equals.

The shift came after Washington acknowledged that its policy of trying to affect change in tightly controlled communist Cuba through isolation and trade restrictions had failed, and that engaging Havana directly was a better way to nudge it towards democracy and prosperity.

For the first time since 1961, the Cuban flag will fly over Havana’s newly upgraded embassy in Washington, just a stone’s throw from the White House.

The standard with a white star inside a red triangle against white and blue stripes will also take its place among a row of flags from around the world adorning the State Department’s imposing marble entrance in the US capital.

In yet another historic gesture, US Secretary of State John Kerry will formally receive his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez for talks Monday, before holding a joint press conference around 1:45 pm (1745 GMT).

Earlier, Rodriguez will preside over a ceremony to mark the up grading of the Cuban interests section to a full embassy.

The rapprochement was announced on December 17, as Obama and his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro agreed to end their countries’ estrangement and put them on track towards a full normalization of ties.

After a series of negotiations in Havana and Washington, the restoration of diplomatic relations has come about just seven months later.

ISIS kidnaps Nigerian in Libya

ISIS kidnaps Nigerian in Libya

The Islamic State has reportedly kidnapped a Nigerian in Libya.

The man’s passport and photo were posted online through the Twitter handle, -T- @TDecker75 on Friday night.

The passport posted on the Internet indicated that the man’s name is Ibrahim Adeola; his date of birth is May 24, 1979; he was born in Imo State.

Adeola’s passport was issued on January 21, 2012 and its expiration date is January 20, 2017.

He was said to have been kidnapped in Wilayat, an eastern part of Libya.

The Nigerian was reportedly abducted by the IS along with a Ghanaian, Kofi Sekyere and an Egyptian, Bekhit Ebeid.

The terrorist group is known to always kill its hostages usually by beheading them.

SUNDAY PUNCH had reported that there were strong indications that Boko Haram had forged a strong operational alliance with the ruthless IS as the two bodies released a joint video for the first time about one week ago.

It was the first video recording since Boko Haram pledged allegiance to the IS in 2014.

The video showed the picture of a suspected Nigerian soldier in a kneeling position surrounded by three terrorists with AK47 assault rifles.

Later in the video, the body of the soldier was shown without the head.

The location of the action was not specified in the latest video.

The audio message released through the militants’ vast social media channels was read by an IS spokesperson who also threatened further violence against Christian and Jewish communities.

The video carried a West African insignia of the IS which indicated that the group had set up a media wing in Nigeria.

In March, the son of a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Muhammad Uwais, Ibrahim, had travelled to Syria and allegedly joined the IS.

The junior Uwais, who is in his 40s, was said to have made the trip with his two wives and four children.

Beginning in 2014, a number of people from various countries were beheaded by the IS operating in Iraq and parts of Syria.

In January 2015, a copy of an ISIL penal code surfaced describing the penalties it enforces in areas under its control, including beheadings.

Beheading videos have been frequently posted by the group to social media.

Aisha Buhari says she still cooks for herHusband

Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, said that despite her status as the wife of the Nigerian president, she still cooks her husband’s food.

She revealed this at a party she organized to mark the Eid-el-Fitri celebration at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

She said: “I’m going to leave you soon.

I want to go back home to cook for my husband because my children are here playing with you.

Nobody is at home, only my husband. So, I want to go back home to be with him and also cook dinner for him”, she said. She further stated that the Sallah party was an indication of promoting warm interaction and sharing.

She said, “On occasions like this, we celebrate with children, especially the less privileged, including those in the various internally displaced persons’ (IDPs) camp.

We love, appreciate and share with their present situation.

“The reason for this is to promote warm interaction and sharing what we have with one another.

On this note particularly, we decided to celebrate with all children from different back ground”. She advised the children to obey their parents and teachers’ instructions both at home and schools.

“The future of this great country lies in your hands.

You are to compliment the efforts of government by working very hard in school and be obedient to your parents.

Tomorrow you may become president, the president’s wife, Senator, honourable members, governors, medical doctors, teacher, journalist, engineer, nurse, lawyer and the rest of other honourable professions”, she added.

So Sad! Mother Stabs Her Son Several Times

So Sad! Mother Stabs Her Son Several Times

Promise Eboye a Six-old boy could be liken a cat with nine life after he survived four gory looking stab injuries on his back that was allegedly finflicted by his biological mother on Monday July 13.

The boy who lived with his mother who is simply identified as Comfort and step-father in Kollington area of Ijaiye, Lagos, while his biological father resides in Benin, Edo State narrated how he was stabbed his mother.

The Punch reports that at about 8am on Monday, Promise’s mother, stabbed her son four times, inflicting life-threatening injuries on the boy’s body.

It was learnt that the broken bottle Comfort used pierced the boy flesh inflicting one three-inch injury and another two-inch injury on the boy’s back.

READ ALSO: UNBELIEVABLE: 21 Babies Missing From Motherless Babies Home Residents said that Promise’ mother held tight his wrist and stabbed him several times at his back while the young boy screamed for help.

They wondered what kind of offend did the boy committed to have warranted this kind of cruelty.

The boy while narrating his ordeal said that his mother normally beat him with cane at the slightest provocation and does not understand why she does that.

He added that she sometimes will beat him still he could not walk.

He described in this way,“my mother is wicked.”

The stabbed explained that he was staying with father since when he was one year old.

But his mother came to pick when he turned 5 years from his father’s house.

Promise said: “I was sweeping the day she came. I did not know her as my mother.

My father then told me that she was my mother and she had come to take me to Lagos.

“When we came to Lagos, I started to live with her and my step-father.

But she beat me all the time.” When asked what happened that led to his mother to stab, he said he tripped and fell.

He said: “When I fell, my mother asked me what pushed me and why I fell. She was angry and went to take her N30 cane.

When she was beating me too much and I was screaming, one of our neighbours came to hold her hand to take the cane away from her.

The woman said I should run away because my mother would kill me the way she was beating me.

“My mother said ‘I will kill you, I will kill you’. When she could not find anything else to beat me with, she took a broken bottle on the ground and started to stab me on the back.” Promise revealed that he was rescued by residents, who took him to a private hospital nearby.

But before the boy was taken to the hospital, it was gathered that his mother had planted another story in the boy’s head.

READ ALSO: My Twins And I Drink Garri Daily For Survival The founded of the hospital where the boy was receiving treatment,Pastor Charles Agboola, a pharmacist , explained that the two people who brought Promise in said the boy fell down and landed on a broken bottle.

However, it was a different story the boy narrated to Agboola’s wife, a nurse.

He told her that he was watching two people fight when he sustained the injury. She said: , “He told me that they pushed him and he landed on the broken bottles but when I informed my husband, he said immediately that the story could not be true.

I also noticed that the wounds were not consistent with that story. “It was shocking that the boy’s mother was not remorseful in any way.

It was when she dashed out of the door under the pretence that she was going to look for money for the boy’s treatment, that a crowd from their street, who were coming to the hospital ,grabbed her and told the true story of what happened. “When we asked Promise why he lied, he said his mother had told him what to say when asked how he sustained the injury.”

Agboola stressed further that by the time the boy was about to leave the clinic, he was crying. “He said he did not want to go back home.

We fed him, gave him any kind of food he wanted because I could not leave the boy to suffer even though nobody paid us any money for his treatment.

We even prayed for him. Anytime we brought up the issue of who would take over his care when he was released from our hospital, he became very sad,” he said.

Neighbours said Comfort sometimes punished the boy by smashing his head against a wall when ever he did something wrong.

She was later handed over to the police at Ijaiye- Ojokoro Division. Comfort, who is nursing a toddler, told the police that Promise stepped on her baby, which was why she became angry.

When Promise’s biological father was later contacted, he initially said he wanted nothing to do with the issue. “I have other children – I have produced boys and girls.

Whatever she likes, she should do with her son.

When she likes, she would take the boy to a motor park and send him to me through a driver,” the man said. Confirming the incident, the police spokesman, Kenneth Nwosu, said Comfort would be arraigned as soon as possible.
Syrian army ambushes 40 rebels in Lebanese borders

Syrian army ambushes 40 rebels in Lebanese borders

As many as 40 rebels were killed Saturday in a Syrian military ambush at a contested city near the Lebanese borders, the state news agency SANA reported.

The Syrian army and the Lebanese Hezbollah fighters ambushed the militants, who were attempting to sneak into the city of Zabadani from its slops, the report said.

Meanwhile, the Syrian army and its allied Hezbollah fighters continued their offensive to recapture Zabadani, northwest of the capital Damascus and near the Lebanese borders, managing to storm the city from its southern part and advance toward its center.

The government forces’ battle aims at clearing the city and the entire region of Qalamoun of the Nusra Front and its allied militants, who used the city as a conduit to smuggle militants and weapons from Lebanon into the western countryside of Damascus.

Winning the battle by the Syrian forces and Hezbollah would shield the Lebanese borders of the threat of the Nusra Front, amid reports that most of the blasts that targeted Lebanon recently were planned by the rebels in Syria and the cars were booby-trapped in Qalamoun.
Nigerian airlines decry high operating cost

Nigerian airlines decry high operating cost

Airline Operators Association of Nigeria has called on the Federal Government to review the charge s paid by its members in order to reduce their high cost of operation.

General Secretary of the association, Mr Mohammed Joji, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that high operating cost was a challenge facing the aviation industry in Nigeria.

Joji stated that airline operators in the country were burdened with multiple charges, which included five per cent ticket sale charge, landing and parking charge as well as passenger service charge and en-route navigational charge.

According to him, aside the charges mentioned, airlines are also subjected to paying Value Added Tax to the Federal Inland Revenue Service, which he described as abnormal.

He added, “The issue of multiple charges is a major challenge facing local airline operators, because the charges are so numerous and have significantly affected airlines’ operations.

“For instance, we pay five per cent charge for passenger’s ticket, which is a compulsory payment for every operator.

“For the operators to survive in the business, there is the need for the government to harmonise some of these charges in the over all interest of the sector.

“The charges are not good for the industry as a whole, and we urge the government to find ways of addressing this issue which has become a major challenge to us.”

Joji identified another challenge of the industry as the high cost of aviation fuel (JET-A1), which is currently being sold at between N160 and N170 per litre.

He added that the aviation fuel, whose price was usually cheaper than the prices of petrol and diesel, was hither to sold at N40 per litre.

According to him, the marketers have taken advantage of the deregulation of the downstream sector to reap additional proceeds, describing this as illegal and immoral.

DSS Detains Ex-NSA Sambo Dasuki

DSS Detains Ex-NSA Sambo Dasuki

Former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki was detained on July 16, Thursday by Department of State Services (DSS) personnel.

As Naij.com reports earlier DSS operatives in four Hilux vans, ruled by Mohammed, stormed Dasuko’s private residence in Abuja at about 6:40pm and laid siege on in, insisting on seeing Dasuki.

It was also learnt that something similar occurred in Sokoto, in the home belonged to ex- NSA’s father, Ibrahim Dasuki, a former Sultan of Sokoto, where some other SSS personnel also stormed the home seemingly in search of the retired colonel.

READ ALSO: Dasuki’s Houses Under Siege The soldiers reportedly have searched the re sidence, comprising a bid container that had been in the residence for many years.

They have shut down all occupants of the house and would not permit anyone in or out of the premises.

The siege of the one-time NSA’s home may not be separate from the media reports of an intended investigation of the defence budget and other supposed abuses of office by the immediate-past service chiefs who were fired this week.

The DSS operatives later in the night whisked away the former NSA to one of their facilities in Abuja for interrogation.

Later in the night security operatives took away Dasuki for questioning.

A security source confirmed the detention of ex- NSA, but the reason of the arrest is yet to be given.

One source close to Col Dasuki said:

“The ex- national security adviser was shocked that he was not contacted or invited for interaction on any issue.

Dasuki is suspecting that there is a motive to make him to spend the Sallah break in detention.

“As I am talking to you, neither the director- general of the DSS, Lawal Musa Daura, nor any of the operatives in his house has spoken with Dasuki.

All they wanted was for him to surrender.”

Lagos gov, Speaker sue for peace during Eid-
el-Fitr

Lagos gov, Speaker sue for peace during Eid- el-Fitr

The Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, have called on residents of the state to embrace peace and religious tolerance during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

They urged Muslims in the state not to forget the tenets of forgiveness and brother hood which characterised the period of the holy month.

They said these on Thursday in their separate messages to mark the celebration.

Ambode, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, said the nation needed peaceful co-existence among citizens to overcome the problem of insecurity.

While condemning the wave of violence being perpetrated by members of the Boko Haram sect, he called on Nigerians to return to the value of brotherly love.

He said, “As we celebrate this auspicious occasion, let us renew our faith in our nation and implore the Almighty Allah to restore to us those values that place high premium on human lives, love of neighbours and sharing, even as we ventilate our faith in the unity of our dear country and the possibility of taking its proper place in the comity of nations.”

The governor, who said the spirit of Eid-el-Fitr resonated around the virtues of love and respect, not just for our creator, but also for fellow humans, also called for unity among the different tribes and religions in the state.

“In this all important crusade to rescue our dear country from socio-economic, as well as political quagmire, let us all continue to demonstrate those sterling virtues of harmonious and peaceful co- existence as well as the willingness to serve in this melting pot of cultures where the multi-ethnic and multi-religious nature of our state is turned into a source of strength,” he added.

Obasa, in his message, said Nigerians should continue to display the spirit of love and peace, which were the major virtues they displayed during the Ramadan period.

He also called for support for the government in the war against insurgency in the country.

He said, “We must continue to display the virtues we enjoy during the fasting period, hence there is need for us to continue to share love and promote peace.

Ramadan has come and gone, but our good deeds must not be neglected or forgotten.

“Government at all levels is trying its best to ensure that insurgency is curtailed.

On our part, what is required of us is to come together, share love with one another and promote lasting peace irrespective of our religious affiliation; our main goal should be to put a stop to insurgency.”

The Lagos speaker said Nigerians should remain vigilant at all times while keeping close watch on the ativities of their children.

Obasa said, “The insurgent group has devised a new strategy of using innocent children to plant bombs and explosives at their target areas, hence the onus lies on us to remain vigilant, monitor our children and educate them not to take any parcel or box from any stranger even if they are offered money.”
Group donates foodstuffs to Osun workers

Group donates foodstuffs to Osun workers

The CITA Foundation has donated 600 bags of rice and 100 bags of beans to local government workers and some pensioners in Osun State.

The gesture, according to the group, was aimed at alleviating the suffering of the workers due to the non-payment of their salaries for months.

The distribution of the foodstuffs to the beneficiaries which was carried out at the residence of the founder of the foundation, Thomas Ogungbangbe, was the response of the group to the appeal made by the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Osun State chapter, Mr. Jacob Adekomi, to public-spirited Nigerians and Non-Governmental Organisations to assist the workers in the state.

Ogungbangbe said the gesture was devoid of politics because the group just decided to assist the workers and pensioners who were going through hardship as a result of the salary issue.

He stated that the gesture would give them respite from hunger.

He said, “In response to the need of our people in this daunting global economic situation, Nigeria and Osun are not in isolation and this has further trickled down to local sectors.”

The Executive Secretary of CITA, Mr. Ola Azeez, stated that the initial plan of the foundation was to use the secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees for the distribution of the foodstuffs but he said the gesture was misconstrued.

The Deputy President of NULGE in the state, Kehinde Ogungbamigbe, expressed appreciation to the foundation for coming to assist local government workers in their time of hardship.

He was a very generous individual, always looking for the best in people and wanting to help them achieve great things.

Jamal would have continued to be a fantastic role model for others in the School and beyond, and would have un doubtedly become a great leader as House Captain of Carew as part of the School’s House System.

Jamal was a very keen sportsman, be it on the rugby pitch, the running track or excelling in virtually any other sporting activity.

The short time that he did spend on this trip was characterised by tremendous fun as demonstrated by the photographs that he had already shared with family and friends.

Jamal’s family are obviously devastated by these events, and our thoughts and prayers are with them all at this time.

We will continue to work closely with the family and are ensuring that no effort is spared in supporting them.

Our thoughts are also with the staff and students who were with Jamal, and who are having to cope with this tragedy .

The tour has now been curtailed and the studen ts and staff will be returning to the UK shortly.

This tragic event has left a huge hole in the WCGS community, and this is keenly felt by all staff, students and others who have com e into contact with Jamal.

The School is offering professional internal an d external support to all students and staff, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future .

Our tremendous thanks go out to our hosts, Shawnigan Lake School, for the support that they have offered us, and also to the authorities in British Columb ia who are also working closely with us.

I am sure that you will want to join with us in remembering an extraordinary young man.

The S chool has created an area for remembrance at the front of School.

This area will be available to access by any one within t he WCGS community .

NLC directs Osun worker to resume strike

NLC directs Osun worker to resume strike

Barely 24 hours after the suspension of a seven- week strike by labour unions in Osun State over unpaid salaries, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in the state, Mr. Jacob Adekomi, has directed workers to resume the suspended strike on Wednesday.

Adekomi said this in a programme monitored on a radio station, Ray Power FM in Osogbo on Tuesday night by our correspondent.

Although efforts to confirm from the NLC chairman were unsuccessful as calls put across to his telephone did not connect, the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Teachers in the state, Mr. Mohammed Abdulahi, confirmed the resumption of the strike in a telephone inter view with our correspondent.

Abdullahi stated that the NLC chairman had directed workers to resume the strike.

He said, “The state government has reneged on the earlier MoU signed with labour that it would pay us two months.

They just paid some half of a month salary while some have not even received any.

“This is a violation of the agreement and we are calling on all teachers and other workers to remain at home until further directive is given by the labour.”

The NLC chairman had earlier said workers in the state had rejected the payment of 50 per cent of January salaries by the state government.

He said all affiliate unions of the NLC would meet decide on the next line of action. Adekomi said, ” We are rejecting the payment of half salaries because that was not what we agreed on.

All affiliate unions of the labour will meet later today ( Tuesday) to deliberate on the issue.

But those that have not been paid at all can remain at home.” Also, some local government workers told our correspondent around 2pm on Tuesday that they had yet to receive an alert from their banks.

But the All Progressives Congress in the state has appealed to workers to show understanding with the government, saying the balance of their salaries would be paid very soon.

North Korea names new defence minister

North Korea names new defence minister

North Korea named the four-star general appointed to the vacant post of defence minister on Saturday, three months after his predecessor was reportedly executed.

The country’s KCNA news agency referred to General Pak Yong-sik as “head of the Ministry of the People’s Armed Forces,” the country’s defence minister equivalent, in a report on military talk s held with the government of Laos.

Pak has appeared in numerous state media reports in recent weeks as part of the entourage of leader Kim Jong-Un, fuelling speculation he was to take the position.

The defence minister is thought to rank the second or third highest in the country’s military hierarchy, South Korea’s Yonhap agency said.

Pak was promoted to major general in the North’s army in 1999, according to Yonhap, rising to become a four-star general in May.

It is the first time the North has confirmed that a re placement has been chosen after the purging of the previous defence minister, Hyon Yong-chol, in April.

South Korea’s spy agency initially said Hyon was removed for disloyalty and dozing off during official events presided over by Kim.

But doubts later surfaced over his reporte d execution when the National Intelligence Service clarified that it had been unable to verify he had been put to death.

An opposition MP said at the time it was “odd” that North Korean state TV had continued to show recorded footage featuring the defence minister even after he had supposedly been purged.

The North’s state-run media typically deletes all past mentions of purged officials and air-brushes them from any TV footage.

The video showed the said soldier in a kneeling position surrounded by three terrorists wielding AK 47 assault rifles and later another picture without the head.

The location of the action was not specified in the latest video.

Also, the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, did not speak in the video.

Heart breaking photos: 12yr old girl battered by her father in Lagos

12 year old Kafayat Kareem was battered by her father who used barb wire to beat her mercilessly for defending her mother during one of her parent's fight at their home in Orile Iganmu, Lagos.

Kafayat's father pounced on his wife after he discovered she used his money to play lott to.

Kafayat, who is a Junior Secondary School 1 student at Canal Secondary School, Orile, Lagos, said if not for the timely intervention of vigilante people who found her writhing in pain inside the market, she would have died.

She narrated her experience to The Nation "I live with my parents at 4 Kuforiji Street, Orile.

On July 7th, I ran away from home after receiving severe beating from my father.

My offence was that I tried to stop him from beating my mother.

My father accused my mother of using his hard earned money to play lotto game and he descended on her with anything he could lay his hands on.

My father alleged that my mother loves patronizing lotto game and he beat her up mercilessly and broke her knees.

Despite my mother’s cry for help, none of our neighbours came to her rescue because they are afraid of my father.

I could not bear the beating anymore and I begged my father to stop beating my mother.

He became furious and pounced on me.

This is not the first time my father will beat my mother and I.

I have lost count of his endless beatings. On one occasion, I begged my mother to relocate four of us her children to Ilorin so we can stay away from our father due to his constant beating.

I am the first child but my mother said my father will change but he has gotten worse by the day.

My mother is presently on admission at the Charity Hospital at Orile following the beating my father gave her.

I could not stand his beating any more and I ran away from home to meet one of my mother’s friends at Oyingbo market but I did not meet her when I got to the market.

I was in great pains and I decided to sleep in the market because I do not want to go back to my father’s house.

It was while I was sleeping at the market that some vigilante men came and rescued me.

I told them my plight and they took me to the hospital where I am presently receiving treatment” Also speaking, the secretary of the Vigilante group of Nigeria at Ebutte Metta where Kafayat was found, said after seeing the girl in so much pain, he mobilzed for her to be taken to a nearby hospital to receive medical attention “On July 7th about 4am, I received a report from our members patrolling the Oyingbo market along the railway line that they found a girl laying in pains in one of the stalls.

I told them to bring her to our office and when I saw her body, I asked her what happened and she told me that her father beat her with barb wire.

I quickly mobilized and took her to the Star Clinic at Ebute- Metta where she is receiving treatment the wound on her body had become sores and I wonder what type of a father will beat a child like that.

I took her to the Iponri police station to report the battering but the policemen there turned me back that they do not handle such a case.

I took her to the Area C police Command at Surulere and the police there refused to attend to us.

They told me to take her to the office of the Public defender.

I have been running around with this girl since morning to get the necessary authority to look into this matter and arrest the father but they have refused to take the case,” the man said.

Nigerian-Ameican singer Jidenna says he

Nigerian-Ameican singer Jidenna says he had to import a lot of AK47 when he came to Nigeria to bury his dad

Nigerian-American singer Jidenna The odore Mobisson says he had to bring in a lot of AK47s and employ military commandos when he came to Nigeria for his fathers burial.

In an inter view with music channel, VladTV, Jidenna said in Nigeria, light skinned people are more likely to be kidnapped than dark skinned people as they are seen as more valuable.

Who is this guy again? Sure you're a classic man? Lol. With this kind of statement, people will think Nigeria is so bad.

What he said below "I have had a particular type of upbringing that is not the traditional.

What ever the traditional is for a light skinned mixed African American.

I am Nigerian-American and more specifically I am Igbo American, Igbo being the ethnic group where I am from and that means you are in the South East of Nigeria.

You are way from the city so it means when you go to your village you are the only person or one of the few people that look like you.

In my case, our family is light. There fore when we go to our village, when I actually buried my father I had to bring in a lot of AK47, I had to employ military commandos because when you are light skinned, you are a heavier target for being kidnapped because you are seen as more valuable.

You are seen as white there fore you have money.

You are American there fore you have more money.

If you have more money then you are easy to kidnap and if you are easy to kidnap then we are going to get you.

So for me being light-skinned in Nigeria, in our family, it was difficult.

We have been hounded. We have been robbed.

Our family has been assaulted. We have had a lot of issues.

You can say these to a family that is dark skinned color.

They may or may not have these experiences but for us we have always been the target but when you come to America, its the opposite.

The police may look you over. They may not pull out the gun faster the way they would have done if you were darker"he said.

Oshiomhole Slams GEJ, Okonjo-Iweala For

Oshiomhole Slams GEJ, Okonjo-Iweala For Denying Edo N10B

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state has attacked former president Goodluck Jonathan and his Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for denying his state about N10billion in four years.

The governor made this statement while addressing journalists after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari and former governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi in Aso rock.

According to Oshiomhole, the alleged sum was an estimate of what could have been allocated to his state if the past administration had been faithful in for warding taxes paid by the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Company (NLNG) and Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria into the Consolidated Federation Account the same way the present administration did, The Punch reports.

READ ALSO: Okonjo-Iwaela Speaks Fire Over $2.1B Alleged Spending He how ever expressed happiness that President Buhari has made it clear that he would put an end to impunity and ensure transparency and order.

He said: “All the noise that have been generated over what happened last week, there was nothing extraordinary.

What was extra ordinary is that the NLNG has over the years been remitting funds to the Federal Government but the government illegally refused to transfer these funds to the consolidated revenue fund which belongs to the three tiers of government.

“All that President Buhari was, in line with his commitments to ensuring that all funds and monies accruing to the Federation Account are so remitted, that he has directed the CBN to transfer the funds to the consolidated funds.

“Our commissioners along with federal official s met last week to share those funds in line with the revenue allocation formula.

If this money had come under the last President, it would have gone the same way as in previous years.

“The NLNG is not starting fresh to remit.

It has been doing that every year plus taxes paid by, I think Shell, amounting to about $500 million added to the amount of $1.6 billion from NLNG that total to the amount of $2.1 billion.

That was the money that was shared.

READ ALSO: Unpaid Salaries: This Day Begins Payment After NUJ Gripe “Imagine what Edo State got from this renewed transparency and total compliance to the spirit and letter of the constitution in section 80.

If what we got last week, courtesy of this renewed commitment to transparency, if we had gotten this in the past four years consecutively, we would have made about N10 billion.

“So, by the same token, Edo State government had lost N10 billion under President Goodluck Jonathan and under Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

And this is the point we have been making when analysts just talk about states, states, they do not really probe the specifics and because the federal voice is always louder and people make assumptions that certain people are not likely to do certain things, the truth is that so much was not paid to the federation account and that explains the huge gap.”

Recall that the National Economic Council had accused Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of spending $2.1bn from the Excess Crude Account (ECA) without authorisation.

But according to the ex-minister, the $2 billion she was alleged to have with drawn from the ECA without authorisation was used to pay for fuel subsidy under instructions from former president Goodluck Jonathan.

Don’t compare me to Ronaldo – Depay

Don’t compare me to Ronaldo – Depay

New Manchester United signing Memphis Depay has rejected comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo, but is planning to excite fans of the club.

United boss Louis van Gaal previously compared Depay to Lionel Messi due to his ability to score goals from the wing.

“He’s a goalscoring winger and there aren’t so many of them in the world,” Van Gaal told MUTV in May. “[Lionel] Messi is one of those.”

But Depay has acknowledged he still has plenty of work to do before he is considered among football’s elite.

“I don’t want to say I can be like somebody as that, but I think I can excite the fans,” he said at his official unveiling.
Dozens arrested in Algeria over ethnic
 violence

Dozens arrested in Algeria over ethnic violence

Algerian security forces have arrested dozens of people just two days after 22 people were killed in ethnic clashes between Berbers and Arabs in the country’s south.

The country’s prime minister on Thursday said that at least 27 people were arrested over what he said was their involvement in the violence in the Guerara district of the city of Ghardaia.

Some media sources put the figure of those rounded up by security forces at 35.

The arrested included activist Kamal Fakhar al-Din, who has been campaigning for the rights of Berber people.

He was in a mosque Ghardaia be fore security forces stormed it and arrested him and several other people.

Make shift barricades of tyres and wheelbarrow s were erected between the rival neighbourhoods and burned out homes, shops and cars, the AFP news agency reported on Thursday.

It also said that 16 of the dead were from the Berber community and three were Arabs.

Ghardaia is situated in the M’zab valley, a UNESCO world heritage site on the edge of the Sahara that has seen mounting tensions between the two communities.

There have been on-and-off confrontations between the two communities since December 2013 over property and land owner ship after a Berber shrine was vandalised.

But this week’s violence was the worst so far, prompting President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to order the regional commander general to “supervise the actions of the security services and local authorities to re-establish public order”.

He also asked Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal to punish “all violations of the law with diligence and severity” and to ensure the security of people and their goods, his office said.

But some news papers and analysts criticised the government’s response.

Qassem Hajjaj, a doctor of political science at Algeria’s University of Ouargla, said that the security measures announced fail to address the roots of the tensions.

“The Berbers have economic grievances and they have not been compensated for the vandalism that was inflicted on their property during earlier clashes,” he told Al Jazeera.

Berbers represent around 30 percent of the Algerian population and have long considered them selves marginalised by the country’s dominant Arab culture.

“People want the army to maintain security but they are scared because they do not know what the security plan looks like,” Hajjaj said.

He said people in Ghardaia are worried that security measures would restrain their movement and restrict their rights.

“There is fear of what is going to happen next. Local media, which are supposed to be an agent between the security officials and the residents, have not been informative at all.”

Buhari rejects N400m armoured cars

President Muhammadu Buhari has turned down an offer by the Federal Government to buy 5 new armoured Mercedes Benz S-600 (V222) cars for his use.

The cars which cost is about N400m were planned to be purchased by the State House.

A source close to the presidency told journalists on Thursday that Buhari found out about the plan when the Permanent Secretary, State House, Mr. Nebolisa Emodi, briefed him of his ministry’s activities on Wednesday.

Angry at the revelation, the President was said to have told Emodi that the purchase was unnecessary.

Describing it as a waste of scarce re sources, the source said Buhari told the permanent secretary that the cars he inherited from former President Goodluck Jonathan were good enough for him.

“I don’t need any new cars.

The ones I am using now are just fine,” the source quoted the President as saying.

Top government officials, however, said Buhari welcomed other initiatives presented by the permanent secretary to reduce the operating costs of the State House and streng then its Finance and Accounts Internal Control Mechanisms.

How ever he directed that more efforts be made towards the capture of all State House expenses within the approved national budget, in order to avoid the frequent recourse by past ad ministrations to “Presidential intervention funds.”

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, confirmed that Buhari had with held approval for the purchase of the new cars.

Shehu said the President would continue to use the cars left behind by Jonathan in keeping with his commitment to prudent management of national resources.

Man accused of killing 18 year old gf &
burning her 3yr old son alive

Man accused of killing 18 year old gf & burning her 3yr old son alive

Prudencio Ramirez stands accused of killing his 18 year old girlfriend and her three year old son in Washing ton State.

Family members suspect jealousy may have led to the grue some slayings of the teen and her son, who were found shot and severely burned in a remote part of Franklin County.

Maria G. Cruiz-Calvillo, and Luis F. Lopez-Cruz were identified on Monday July 6th as the bodies found last week inside a vehicle that was set on fire in a ravine near the intersection of Scootney and Ridge roads.

Luis likely was still alive when the car went up in flames, according to Franklin County coroner.

Luis would have turned four years old on today Thursday July 9th...

Fragos-Ramirez was arrested hours into the investigation at his home less than a mile from where the bodies were found.

Prosecutors say Fragos-Ramirez was deported in 2014 and got back into the country illegally.

Family members had never met Fragos-Ramirez, though Cruiz-Calvillo talked to her mother about a guy she was seeing, whom she apparently referred to by the nickname “Loco,” Rodriguez said. “(The family) thinks she never wanted a serious relationship with him,” Rodriguez said. “It’s jealousy.” Family members last saw Cruiz-Calvillo the afternoon of her death as she was leaving Othello with Luis for Pasco to make a car payment, court documents said.

She routinely went to Pasco to make car payments.

“We checked with the bank,” Rodriguez said. “She made the payment at 3:43 (p.m.).” 2 neighbors saw Cruiz-Calvillo and Luis arrive at Fragos-Ramirez’s home about 4:40 p.m., court documents said.

The neighbors recognized the mother and son because they frequent the house on Hog back Road.

Between 10 and 20 minutes later, the neighbors saw the pair and Fragos-Ramirez walking towards Cruiz-Calvillo’s car, court documents said.

They didn’t see Fragos-Ramirez return to the house and did n’t see him again until about 7 p.m.

Smoke was spotted coming from the ravine where the bodies were found about 20 to 30 minutes after the trio was seen leaving the home.

It took detectives eight minutes to drive from the home to the spot where the bodies were found.

Detectives were able to track down Fragos-Ramirez for an interview after Cruiz-Calvillo’s brother, Arturo Calvillo, remembered meeting a man who matched the description of Fragos-Ramirez while at a house on church business.

Calvillo took Detective Jason Nunez to the house, and Nunez contacted a woman there.

The woman told Nunez she had a brother who was at the house when Calvillo came over.

She called Fragos-Ramirez and handed the phone to Nunez, who then set up an interview.

Fragos-Ramirez told Nunez he last had contact with Cruiz-Calvillo about 2:30 p.m. the day she was killed and had not heard from or seen her since.

Nunez arrested Fragos-Ramirez on an out standing warrant and booked him in to jail.

After Nunez spoke to the neighbors, he interviewed Fragos-Ramirez again.

Fragos-Ramirez claimed Cruiz-Calvillo came to his house about 5:10 p.m. to bring him cigarettes.

“He said he last saw (Cruiz-Calvillo) and her son leaving his property in her vehicle,” Nunez wrote in a probable cause affidavit.

“He said her son was in the back seat in a child seat.”

Nunez searched Fragos-Ramirez’s home and found three clean boxes of .9-mm ammunition stashed in a tire in a dusty shed on the property, court documents said.

Fragos-Ramirez admitted to recently having a .9-mm hand gun, but claimed he s old it to Cruiz-Calvillo three days before the murders for $300 “because he needed the money for a party he was throwing that day.”

Fragos-Ramirez claimed his brother, Isabel Fragoza, had seen him sell the gun to Cruiz-Calvillo.

Fragoza denied the claim and told Nunez he had seen his brother with a hand gun recently, but didn’t know what happened to the gun.

Authorities booked Fragos-Ramirez for two counts of first-degree murder after determining he was seen with the victims shortly before they were killed and that he was unaccounted for when they died.

Prosecutors said in court Monday that Fragos- Ramirez could possibly be charged with aggravated first-degree murder, which carries an automatic sentence of life in prison if convicted.

Rodriguez said her family is having trouble understanding how someone could take the life of a child so violently.

Shortly before the inauguration of the present government, the country had almost rolled back Boko Haram and its activities in every part of Nigeria – from Adamawa to Borno to Yobe.

“I was hoping that when we come back in the 8th Assembly, that I will work with our colleagues from the North-East to develop a plan of action that will help to rehabilitate that part of Nigeria.

I feel so concerned about the suffering of our people from the North-East of Nigeria.

“I had hoped that by now we would be tasking our selves on how best to rebuild that part of Nigeria.

Regrettably the actions of Boko Haram seems to have resurfaced now not only in Borno, they have carried out their activities also in Plateau, they have gone to Adamawa, Kaduna.

“I am worried that if nothing is done, the next target would be Abuja.

Maybe they start going to South.

It is important for us as those in government, whether Executive or Legislature, to come together to find solutions to these problems.”

He there fore appealed to neighbouring countries and the international community to support the country to fight Boko Haram, stressing that there was no way the nation could achieve progress in the country when security problems linger on.

He said the Buhari administration should, as a matter of urgency, “deal with this security challenge no matter what it would cost us.”

He also called for collaboration between the Executive and the Legislature in order to deal with the menace.

Presidency faults PDP on N713.7bn bailout for states

The Presidency on Wednesday took on the Peoples Democratic Party and those it called the party’s agents over their position on the relief released to state governments by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, accused the PDP of creating unnecessary controversy over “the well- intentioned effort” of the President.

He described as “banal and ludicrous” the claim by the party’s spokesman, Olisa Metuh, that the past government should be given credit for saving the money that was disbursed.

The statement read in part, “Mr. Metuh’s claim that a significant amount of the funds came from savings accumulated in the Excess Crude Account and handed over to the Buhari administration is completely false and deliberately intended to mislead the public.

“As we clearly stated yesterday (on Tuesday), the funds approved by President Buhari for sharing to the three tiers of government on Monday came entirely from dividends and taxes paid to the Federation Account by the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Company, not from the Excess Crude Account.

“The disbursed NLNG dividends and taxes were paid into the Federation Account in June this year and confirmed by the Central Bank’s statement to the Federal Government on July 7, 2015.

“The funds cannot, there fore, be considered ‘savings’ by the Jonathan administration which left office in May, 2015, as disingenuously claimed by Mr. Metuh.

“Instead of being repeatedly impugned and castigated by the PDP and its agents for honestly telling Nigerians that the nation’s treasury has been immensely depleted and its resources looted or squandered under previous administrations, President Buhari should be commended for the openness, transparency and accountability which he has now brought to the management of national funds.

“It was in keeping with that disposition that the President promptly disclosed the accrual of the NLNG dividends and taxes to the Federation Account at his recent meeting with state governors and approved the convening of a special session of the FAAC to share it.

“As a state governor, who was present at the meeting, remarked, under the past administrations, the states never had the benefit of such disclosures.

“Mr. Metuh and others, who now ungratefully see Monday’s disbursement of the NLNG proceeds as their “legitimate” earnings and not a “bailout” from the Federal Government, may wish to tell Nigerians if such earnings were ever disclosed by the PDP Federal Government and paid to the states in the past.

“The public may also wish to note that the Buhari administration itself has never referred to the actions which it was taken to ease the current financial difficulties of states as a “bailout.”

Abandoned mother of triple twins receives cash from group, who also offered scholarship to one set of twins

More help came for Mrs Ruth Uche, the abandoned mother of triple set of twins, as a humanitarian organization called Voice of Divine Truth Int’l Outreach, (aka Voice of Change Network) gave her a cash donation, and offered her 2nd set of twins scholarship from primary to university level.

This came on the heels of the Speaker’s visit and the Governor’s kind gesture to her. Sitting in her dimly lit one room which doubled as her bedroom and her sitting room, the President of the group, Mr Gregory Azemobor expressed gratitude to God for the life of the children and their mother.

He also stressed the fact that the children need to be given a future.

He also called on well-meaning Nigerians to do what they can in supporting this woman and her six children.

Ruth who earns a paltry N10,000 monthly salary as a teacher in a day care Centre narrated her ordeal of sending her children to school.

According to her, the children’s fees is N10,000 per child, but thanks to the management of the school who asked her to pay N5,000 instead.

She narrated how she uses her two months’ salary to pay her four children’s fees.

As for the books and feeding, she says she teaches an evening class of six children who pays her #1,000 each monthly, which brings in additional #6,000 for the feeding and the upkeep of the family.

The question is ’how can #6,000 cater for the needs of a growing family of seven?’

Ruth is only one of such people in our society who needs to be shown love. Let’s not wait for the government.

“LNG bailout fund Jonathans savings”- PDP insists - advises presidency to deal on issues & stop personal insults & abuses

Press statement from the PDP....

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) insists that contrary to claims by the Presidency, the $2.1 billion Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) component of the bailout for states was actually saved by the immediate past President Jonathan-led PDP administration.

The party said in actual fact the LNG dividend stood at $5.6 billion even before the hand over date of May 29th and would have been shared but for the insistence of former President Goodluck Jonathan that it be left for the incoming administration to manage.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in statement on Wednesday thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for making it possible for Nigerians to know that monies were left behind by the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

The party said despite attempts by the APC-led administration to hide the truth, the issuance of the bailout with funds from the LNG proceeds and the Excess Crude Account (ECA) has exposed the fact that the PDP administration actually left behind huge sums of money, contrary to the impression earlier given to Nigerians and the international community that the new administration met a virtually empty treasury.

“It is gratifying to note that gradually the evidence of monies left behind by the PDP-led administration is coming to public light despite effort by the new government to hide the facts.

The public had been made aware that $2 billion was left in the ECA for which the Accountant – General and the APC confirmed approvals for the with drawal of $1.7 billion.

“We know that surely, though slowly, a lot of other monies saved by the PDP and which are now under the control of the APC government will eventually be unveiled by this administration them selves and without any effort on our part what so ever.

The PDP says it believes that President Buhari must have realized that he was earlier misdirected on the actual state of the nation’s finances and should as a respected statesman apologize to his predecessor, President Goodluck Jonathan who also ensured that he handed over to him a peaceful and stable environment to operate.

The party said “President Buhari as a leader on whose shoulders lies the mandate of the Nigerian people and the burden of governance for the next four years should strive to disentangle him self from the intrigues, propaganda, blackmail and machinations of some leaders in his party and focus on delivering on his campaign promises for which he was elected.”

The PDP also urged the APC as a party in power to rise above board and endeavor to be honest in its dealings, especially if it wants Nigerians to take it seriously.

It said a situation where a ruling party will resort to a dishonorable act of altering a statement where it earlier acknowledged the approval for the with drawal from the ECA, just to hide the truth, leaves much to be desired.

Finally, we want the public to note that all our statements and engagements have been based on facts and issues.

Consequently, we urge the Presidency to focus on issues and stop trending on personal insults, threats and abuses.
